Gamble for Tuition Money
College student: "Is your plan to gamble for your tuition money?"
Richie Furst: "It must be really nice to have your education paid for… I've been three-tabling… Statistically it's the right play… This is the one you wait for."
College student: "Maybe he was waiting for you."
Richie shows off with his classmates as he plays poker online for big bucks. He knows he's about to win big then he unexpectedly busts out. This leaves Richie broke, in debt and in a lot of trouble.
Taking a Shot at a Real Business
Richie Furst: "Richie Furst"
Ivan Block: "Welcome aboard. This is the House. I never in a million years thought I'd have something like this."
Richie Furst: "Why the House?"
Ivan Block: "The house always wins, which is why we don't have to cheat people."

Upon meeting Ivan, the head of the online poker site, Richie is surprised at the kindness he receives. He got more than expected, plus an offer he can't refuse.

Richie Furst: "I was in. He gave me the run of the place, got a look at how the sausage is made, even let me bring in my own people. He needed some Princeton math so I gave it to him. $30 billion and I was there to make sure we got our piece."
Richie gives an overview of his new lifestyle. He has the brains to bring in the big bucks and his opportunities for success have never been bigger.
This Is Your Job
Richie Furst: "You let me walk right into it, Ivan."
Ivan Block: "This is your job. You want a clear conscience, go start a charity. But if you want your own island and your boss says you gotta go out there and take a beating, you go out there, take it and come back to work and say, 'do you need me to do it again?'"
Upset after he was ambushed on the job, Richie sees an explanation from Ivan. Ivan however sees it as a choice. Richie can go do something more flowery or he can stay here and work for his take.
Your Dad Was a Deadbeat
Ivan Block: "If I wasn't your friend, I'd say your dad was a deadbeat. You owe money like that you get a reputation. That's how I knew how to find him. Now hopefully we can get him some help, we can get you some help too. Here's the thing, Richie. Your dad owes $187,000 so this is what I did. I bought the debt. I own the paper on your father. The only person who can do anything to him now is me."
Ivan puts Richie in a vert difficult position. Richie wants to leave Ivan but having his father on Ivan's list makes this nearly impossible.
You Have a Real Gift
University Dean: "You have a real gift. I want you to make this place proud but gambling is forbidden on campus."
Richie Furst: "I owe $60,000 tuition due next week and that's if I don't eat."
University Dean: "Change your tune or you won't have a school to pay for."
Richie is not just in a tight spot financially, owing $60,000 in tuition to Princeton, but his university dean is aware of his gambling too. There is one out, making money for the dean. Though it's not the best situation, it's all he has right now.
I Was Cheated
Tech Guy: "Look how far outside the normal win rates the guys who beat you are."
Richie Furst: "I was cheated."
Upon examining the win rates, Richie and a friend notice a glaring spike in his opponent's records. It wasn't that Richie lost, he was cheated.

College student: "You're about to jet off to a country you've never been to with a language you do not speak."
Richie Furst: "Do you have any idea how crazy this is?"
Richie's friend tries to talk him out of flying to Costa Rica to confront the head of his poker website about the inconsistencies but Richie isn't trying to hear it. Despite being out if his element there, Richie needs to pursue this.

All is going well for Richie, that is until he's kidnapped by someone claiming to work for the FBI and forced to work for the other side, or else.
